The „locking“ function offers the possibility to deactivate datasets in order to view and edit them. However the dataset can be unblocked for certain users and groups. So it is possible that the dataset can be used for automatic password entry without the user seeing the password.
With the lock function the access to a record can be protected. According to the scenario this can be used for an older dataset or to protect a dataset against direct access. It can be configured who is allowed to administrate the lock. As the owner of the lock you can also edit the record. However, direct access is not possible.

The record lock could also be used to hide information. A locked dataset can be configured in a way that protected fields, like for example the password, cannot be seen. The automatic password entry (SSO) is available for certain users and groups. So the password can be used but the user never sees the password. The automatic password entry is of course logged in the logbook.
